About Us

Promoting Happiness and Celebrating Tibetan Culture

Shide means "happiness and well-being" in Tibetan. We are group of Tibetan monks and teachers dedicated to promoting happiness and well-being through both religious and secular approaches to Buddhist teachings. We are also equally committed to the conservation and revitalization of Tibetan language and culture.

Our Teachers

The teachers at Shide are highly qualified Geshes, holding the highest degree in the Tibetan Buddhist monastic system. This title requires more than 20 years of study, roughly equivalent to a Ph.D. All our teachers are native Tibetan speakers born in Tibet who later left Chinese-occupied Tibet to study in India.

Our Approach

While rooted in Buddhist tradition, our teachings are accessible to all. We believe that Buddhist psychology and philosophy have incredible potential to help people lead happier and more fulfilling lives, regardless of their personal faith or lack thereof. Therefore we teach in a way that is non-sectarian and secular, open to Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. Our approach is relaxed, low-pressure, and open to questions and doubts.

Our Programs

  1. Buddhist Psychology and Philosophy Classes: We offer both online and in-person classes in McLeod Ganj, India, to promote peace and well-being.

  2. Tibetan Language Classes: We teach Tibetan to both non-Tibetans and Himalayan Tibetans, with courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels. These classes are available online globally and in-person in McLeod Ganj. Many of our students are Himalayan Tibetans and the children of Tibetan refugees that want to improve their Tibetan language skills. For all students, the language classes are also an opportunity to learn about the incredible Tibetan heritage, such as, for example, learning about the history of Tibet, Tibetan customs, and learning traditional Buddhist prayers and rituals.

  3. Cultural Events: We regularly host events to share and preserve Tibetan culture.

Our Beginnings

Geshe Lharampa Gyaltsen Tsering and Geshe Lharampa Thukde Sonam, along with other Shide teachers, founded our organization on December 10, 2022, in order to fulfill the Dalai Lama's wishes to promote global peace and preserve Tibetan language and cultural heritage.

Language Accessibility

While most of our teachers currently speak only Tibetan, they are diligently learning other languages, including English and Chinese, to better serve our diverse student base.

We invite you to join us on this journey of self-discovery and cultural appreciation. Our goal is simple: to help you live a happier life through these timeless teachings and rich cultural experiences.

entrada Peace of Mind

> This photo shows the entrance from Bagsu road (actually just below Bagsu road on the road that goes down toward Amdo Village).

>Go down the stairs and through the gate to the left. This leads into a corridor along the first building. Once past this corridor, continue straight for about 15 meters and look for stairs going down to the right (the last stairs before the grass). Go down these stairs and the door to Shide should be on your right.
